About this project
A rounded storage box with a lid that slides into grooves in the walls - no hinge, no snap, nothing to fatigue. Two flat parts, both printable without supports.
Box size
Width, length and height, all with drag handles in the viewport. The length runs along the direction the lid slides.
Walls and corners
Wall and floor thickness, and the inside corner radius. The outside radius is not a separate control - it tracks the inside radius plus the wall, so the wall stays the same thickness the whole way round a corner instead of bunching up.
Lid and fit
The lid and its grooves share matching 45 degree tapers, which is what lets both print flat with no bridging over the slot. The front entrance is left open so there is nothing to bridge at the mouth either.
Clearance is the slider that decides whether this works on your printer. It applies on each side of the lid and above and below it, so 0.3 gives 0.6 mm total across the width. Too tight and the lid binds; too loose and it rattles out. Print one box, see how it runs, adjust.
An optional recessed thumb grip near the front gives you something to push against.
Label
Optional engraved text on the lid, with its own font, size and a 90 degree rotation for boxes that are longer than they are wide.
Layout
Print layout drops both parts flat on the ground plane side by side, ready to export. Turn it off and you get the assembled box, with a slider that slides the lid open so you can check the fit visually before committing.
While you dial it in
Readouts give the finished lid dimensions, the clear interior, the outside footprint and the storage depth under the closed lid - plus a design check that catches a thumb grip wider than the lid, or walls so thick there is nothing left inside.
