Mcp Exercise Wavy Trivet

About this project

A trivet woven from overlapping wavy rings. The rings cross each other in a rosette, giving an open, flat mat for a hot pot or teapot that prints in one piece, with a loop at the top so it can hang on a wall hook when not in use.

How it's built

  • Ring - an equation curve, a circle whose radius ripples with a sine wave, drawn as a band of constant width.
  • Rings - a radial repeat copies that one ring evenly around the centre; every crossing is blended with a fillet.
  • Loop - a ring on top of the upward-pointing ring, placed by formula so its hole always clears the band, whatever the size, wave or ring count.
  • Body - the 2D pattern is inflated into a slab with rounded edges.

Parameters

Group Slider What it does
Rings Ring radius Size of each ring
Rings Rings 2-6 overlapping rings
Rings Offset How far each ring sits from the centre; larger = wider, more open
Wave Amplitude, waves Height and count of the ripples; 0 amplitude gives plain circles
Band Width, blend, thickness Band width, crossing fillet and slab thickness
Hanging loop On/off, loop radius, hole radius Size the hole for your hook or nail

Sliders guard themselves: the rings always overlap enough to stay one piece, and the ripples can't get so steep they fold over. Many fine waves make a very detailed mesh, so expect slower updates at the top of the wave-count range.

Printing

Print flat on the bed. For hot pots, PETG or ASA hold up far better than PLA.
