About this project
A flat knot charm: one continuous rope looping through itself into a trefoil, with a hanging loop on the top lobe. Add lobes to turn it into a four- to seven-petal interlaced rosette.
How it's built
- Knot - an equation curve, x = a(sin t + k sin((n-1)t)) and y = a(cos t - k cos((n-1)t)), stroked to a constant rope width. n is the lobe count; k sets how far each lobe swings out.
- Orientation - the curve is turned by 180/n degrees so a lobe tip always points straight up.
- Loop - a ring placed on that tip so its hole clears the rope, blended into the knot.
- Body - the outline is inflated into a slab with rounded edges.
Parameters
| Group | Control | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Knot | Scale | The charm spans about 2a(1 + lobe size) |
| Knot | Lobes | 3-7; 3 is the trefoil |
| Knot | Lobe size | 1.2 (tight, round) to 2.5 (long petals) |
| Rope | Half-width, blend, thickness | Line weight, loop fillet and slab thickness |
| Hanging loop | On/off, loop radius, hole radius | Sized for a jump ring or cord |
Many lobes with a thick rope on a small charm will close up the small inner gaps; widen the scale or thin the rope to keep them open.
Printing
Print flat on the bed.
