3D-Printable Multi-Purpose Bench Vise (half scale)

A working, fully printable reconstruction of the Klutch 5in. Capacity Multi-Purpose Bench Vise (item #77596), rebuilt from the exploded parts diagram and parts list on page 9 of its owner's manual. Every one of the manual's 25 part numbers is modeled, and part names in the scene tree carry those numbers (P01 Vise Body, P13 Spindle Screw, P23 Bracket Nut, ...).

Scale is roughly 1:2: 64 mm jaws (the original is 5 in / 127 mm) and a 1–50 mm opening. The manual gives only jaw width and opening; everything else was proportioned from the diagram and cover photo.

How it works (same as the real vise)

  • A round slide tube on the movable jaw runs through the body and out the back.
  • The bracket nut (23) rides inside the tube; its tongue passes up through the tube's slot and is bolted by the socket head bolt (21) to the rotating jaw sleeve. That keys the whole jaw set together.
  • Pull the spring-loaded lock pin (19/18/20) and the jaw set flips 180°: V-jaw inserts (9/22) on top, pipe jaws (12) in the middle, flat serrated jaws (16) underneath.
  • A printed Tr12×3 spindle (13) drives the jaw; a washer (14) and stop nut (15) keep it from backing out.
  • The body swivels 360° on the base (2), clamped from below by the inner base plate (3) and carriage bolts (7). Two T-handle lock-down bolts (17) lock the swivel and the jaw sleeve.

Configurator

  • jawOpen – jaw opening shown in the assembly (1–50 mm). The spindle rotates with it, as a real screw does.
  • jawWidth – jaw width.
  • clr – print clearance for every sliding, rotating and threaded fit (default 0.3 mm). Raise it if parts bind on your printer.

All mating parts were checked for collisions at 1, 20 and 50 mm opening; all threads were phase-matched.

Printing (no supports needed)

Generic FDM, 220×220×250 bed, 0.2 mm layers, 3+ walls, 25% infill. Parts are exported in assembly position – orient them in your slicer:

Part On the bed
Body (1) Turntable down (teardrop bore, 45° skirt)
Base (2) Top face down
Inner base plate (3) Flat side down, hub up
Stationary jaw head (4) Jaw face down
Movable jaw (10) Jaw face down (178 mm tall – brim)
Spindle (13) Head down (207 mm tall – brim, or use M12 threaded rod)
Bracket nut (23) Axis vertical
Lock-down bolts (17) Head down
Jaw inserts (9, 12, 16, 22) Back down, teeth up
Knobs (20, 25b) Hole facing up
Handle (25) Knob down, rod vertical
Pins (6, 8, 19), T-bars Standing up, or use steel dowels / 5 mm rod

Hardware

  • 2× M6 heat-set inserts + 2× M6 carriage bolts (7)
  • 8× M4 flat-head screws (jaw inserts, 5/11)
  • 1× M3×8 socket head bolt (21)
  • 1× M3 set screw (stop nut 15)
  • 1× compression spring ~9.5 mm OD × 11 mm (18)
  • Optional: 5 mm steel rod for T-bars and pins

Assembly order

  1. Press heat-set inserts into the body underside; seat the base on the plate hub and bolt plate → body with the carriage bolts.
  2. Drop spring + lock pin into the body from inside the bore; press the pull knob on top.
  3. Slide the nut into the tube through the open rear end, tongue in the slot.
  4. Insert tube into the jaw sleeve, slide the sleeve into the body, bolt the nut tongue to the sleeve (21), then fit the retaining pin (8).
  5. Thread the spindle through the movable jaw into the nut, add the retaining pin (6), washer (14) and stop nut (15).
  6. Fit the inserts, the handle and the two T-handle bolts.
