Utility project

corner bracket

About this project

A thin folded corner bracket — two legs meeting at an adjustable angle with a smooth blend at the bend, and a row of holes down each leg.

This is the light version of the bracket family: a folded strip rather than a plate-and-gusset assembly. It suits joining panels, stiffening a corner, or anywhere a sheet-metal angle would normally go.

The bend

The angle is free between about 30 and 150 degrees, so it does acute and obtuse corners as well as square. The blend radius smooths the inside of the bend — keep it at or above the material thickness, which is the same rule sheet metal follows, and for the same reason: a bend tighter than the thickness concentrates stress on the outside.

Holes

A row down each leg, evenly spaced along the length. The hole figure is a radius internally; the Info panel reports the diameter you would drill.

Printing

Lay it on one leg so the bend runs up as a smooth curve rather than a staircase, and the holes come out as vertical bores. At 2 mm thick this is four perimeters and no infill at a 0.4 nozzle — the whole part is wall.

The layers run across the bend, which is the weak direction. If it has to take load rather than just locate two panels, print it thicker and expect it to open up at the bend before anything else gives.
