About this project
A hanging ornament shaped like a climbing vine: a gently swaying stem with pairs of leaves along its length and a loop at the top for a hook or ribbon. Hang it on a tree, a window or a wall hook. It prints flat in one piece with soft rounded edges.
How it's built
- Stem - a smooth path stroked to width. Its length and sway are sliders; sway 0 gives a straight stem.
- Leaves - one pair of elliptical leaves, repeated evenly along the stem. Leaf size and angle are shared by every pair.
- Blend - leaves and stem are joined with a smooth fillet so the vine reads as one organic piece.
- Hanging loop - a short neck continues the stem above the top leaf pair to a ring with a hole. It moves with the stem length, leaf size and angle so it always clears the top leaves, and the ornament hangs straight from it.
- Body - the outline is extruded to thickness with fully rounded edges.
Parameters
| Group | Slider | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Stem | Length | 50-160 mm stem |
| Stem | Sway, width | How far the stem wiggles, and how thick it is |
| Leaves | Length, width, angle | Leaf size and how steeply they point up from the stem |
| Leaves | Pairs | 2-16 leaf pairs along the stem |
| Body | Blend, thickness | Fillet where leaves meet the stem; ornament thickness |
| Hanging loop | On/off, loop radius, hole radius | Size the hole for your hook or ribbon; the loop always keeps 1.5 mm of material around it |
Printing
Print flat on the bed, no supports. Green PLA or silk filament looks great; a gold or silver one makes a festive tree ornament. Make several with different leaf counts and lengths and hang them together.
