About this project
A two-part lantern for a battery LED tealight: a round sleeve pierced by a ring of tall pointed-arch windows, sitting on a base that centres the sleeve and holds the light.
How it's built
- Sleeve - a thin-walled tube with solid bands top and bottom. One pointed-window cutter, under a radial repeat, cuts the whole ring of windows; each window roof rises at 60° so it prints upright.
- Base - a flat disc with a raised locating lip that fits inside the sleeve with a set clearance, so the sleeve lifts straight off.
- LED recess - a shallow round pocket in the base sized to your tealight, so it can't slide around.
Parameters
| Group | Control | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Size | Diameter, sleeve height | 60-120 mm across, 60-140 mm tall |
| Construction | Wall, band height | Sleeve wall thickness and the solid bands above and below the windows |
| Windows | Count, width | 5-12 windows, 10-26 mm wide |
| Base | Thickness, lip height | Base disc thickness and height of the locating lip |
| Clearances | Fit clearance | Per-side gap between the sleeve and the lip |
| LED recess | Diameter, depth | Measure your LED tealight and set the pocket to match |
| Resolution | Resolution | Draft / Standard / Fine |
Sliders guard themselves: at least 4 mm of pillar between windows, 20 mm of straight window below each roof, the lip below the windows, 3 mm of lip around the LED pocket and a 2 mm floor under it.
Printing
The sleeve and base are separate bodies: print the sleeve upright and the base flat side down. Neither needs supports. The fit hasn't been test-printed, so check the clearance on your printer first.
