About this project
A lidded round box with a screw-on knob and a choice of surface treatments on the body — the decorative sibling of Fancy Round Box, sized larger and with patterning on the outside.
Decoration
Five options for the body: plain, or one of four patterned surfaces. Flip through them with the picker; each is a different warp applied to the same underlying cylinder, so the box dimensions and the lid fit do not change when you switch.
The patterns are the reason to print this one slowly and in a matte filament. Gloss and speed both flatten the surface relief.
Box and lid
The body is a hollow cylinder with rounded outer edges. The lid drops on and is held by an inset ring that reaches down inside the opening.
Inset clearance is where the fit lives — it is radial, so 0.4 mm drops on and lifts off cleanly, and tightening toward 0.15 gives a lid that stays put when the box is tipped. The inset depth is how far down it reaches: deeper resists being knocked sideways and costs interior height.
Lid lift is the visible gap in the scene, not a fit parameter.
The knob
The knob screws into the lid on its own small thread instead of being printed as part of it. The lid comes out as a flat disc with no overhang, and you can print knobs in a contrasting colour.
Thread engagement has to stay inside the lid disc — the design check enforces that, since there is nothing above the lid for the thread to bite into.
Trim rings
Torus rings around the top and bottom of the body and around the lid. Decorative, and free to print since they sit on outside edges.
Printing
Three parts: body, lid disc, knob. All flat on the bed, no supports. Slow the outer perimeter on the body — that is where the decoration is.
