About this project
A decorative gyroid ball: a hollow spherical shell intersected with a gyroid field, so the sphere comes out as a woven lattice rather than a solid. It is an ornament rather than a functional part, and four sliders are all there is.
Shape
Outer diameter, 30 to 70, sets the ball and the size of the pattern block it is cut from at the same time.
Wall thickness, 1 to 10, is what separates the outer sphere from the inner one subtracted from it. It decides how deep the woven skin runs before the hollow centre begins, and with it at the low end the lattice becomes a thin openwork shell.
The pattern
The gyroid is fixed on the node rather than exposed: sheet mode, a cell scale of 0.25 and a thickness of 1.5. Nothing in the configurator reaches it. To change the family, the cell size or the sheet thickness, open the Pattern 3D node itself - the sliders only shape the sphere it is trimmed to.
Smooth and precision
Smooth is the blend width on the intersection that trims the lattice to the sphere. At zero the pattern is cut off flat where it meets the surface; raise it and the cut rolls over instead, which is what softens the ball's outer edge.
Precision is the sample cell size for that same intersection, 0.1 to 2. It does not change the shape, only how finely it is resolved, and it is where the solve time goes. Leave it coarse while moving the other three, then tighten it once. The pattern node currently reports that the GPU solve declined and fell back to the CPU, so fine settings will be slow.
