Parametric SDF Desk Dragon & Stylus Guardian

An organic, multi-color 3D-printable desk dragon companion and stylus/pen cradle built with GPU-native Signed Distance Fields (SDF) and graduated parametric_repeat chains in RigCAD.

Overview

This model combines nested 3D SDF smooth blending with multi-color boolean assemblies so the dragon reads as a sculpted character while keeping distinct color accents and a functional desk cradle:

• Nested Multi-Region 3D SDF Body (Dragon_SDF_Main_Body):
  • Dragon_Torso_And_Head (smooth: 3.4 mm) blends the sitting belly sphere, upper chest sphere, neck capsule, head cranium, snout bridge, lower jaw chin, and mirrored brow ridges with wide, organic fillets.
  • Dragon_SDF_Main_Body (smooth: 2.0 mm, precision: 0.30 mm) joins the torso/head group with the mirrored sitting haunches, planted feet, outstretched forearms, bat-like wing spars (Dragon_Wing_Group_R), and curling tail (Curling_Tail_Repeat).
• Graduated parametric_repeat Tail, Horns & Dorsal Crest:
  • Curling Tail (Curling_Tail_Repeat): A parametric_repeat (sdf: true, smooth: 1.6 mm) of an analytic sphere whose count (tailSphereCount) is automatically derived from tailReach and tailCurlZ so adjacent spheres always overlap by $> \frac{1}{3}$ radius as the tail sweeps backward, curls upward, and flares slightly at the spade tip.
  • Golden Curved Horns (Curved_Horn_Repeat_R) & Dorsal Spine Crest (Dorsal_Crest_Repeat): Grouped in their own warm-gold SDF union (Golden_Horns_And_Crest_SDF, hornAndCrestColor) outside the emerald body blend so they keep their distinct color while fusing cleanly into the head and back.
• Sharp Eye Beads, Nostrils & Functional Stylus/Pen Cradle:
  • Eyes (Dragon_Eyes_Mirror) & Nostrils (Nostrils_Mirror_Cutter): High-segment (64) dark eye beads and subtracted nostril dimples colored by eyeColor.
  • Stylus / Pen Cradle (Stylus_Pen_Cradle_Cutter): A horizontal cylindrical cradle with 45° flared entry tapers across the outstretched forearms and claws (enablePenCradle), sized by penDia (7.0–12.5 mm) to hold an Apple Pencil, stylus, fountain pen, or hobby brush.
• Support-Free Flat Base:
  • A cut-plane post-processing step (elevation: 90°, offset: 0 mm) on Desk_Dragon_Root trims the base flush on the $XY$ build plate ($Z = 0\text{ mm}$).

3D Printing Notes

• Orientation: Prints upright directly on the flat $Z = 0\text{ mm}$ base.
• Layer Height: 0.16 mm or 0.20 mm recommended for smooth horn tips, dorsal spikes, and snout curves.
• Infill: 12–15% gyroid or grid infill with 3 perimeters.
