Custom-Fit Organizer Tray

About this project

A divided tray sized to the drawer you are actually filling. Type in the space you have, say how many compartments you want, and it works out the rest.

Fitting it

Measure the inside of the drawer and take two or three millimetres off each way — drawers are rarely square, and a tray that fits exactly is a tray you cannot lift out. Wall height is the other judgement call: tall enough that nothing tips over the edge, low enough that you can see what is in there without picking it up.

Compartments

Dividers run front to back and split the tray into equal parts. The Info panel reports what each one actually comes out at, so you can check a compartment against the thing you intend to put in it before you print anything.

The corner radius rounds the outside and the inside together, which is what you want — square internal corners collect dust and are annoying to get a finger into.

Printing

Flat on the bed, no supports. Walls at 3.6 mm print as a solid block at a 0.4 nozzle, which makes for a rigid tray; drop to 2 mm if you would rather save filament and time and the tray is not going to be handled much.

At 205 mm wide this is close to the limit of a 220 bed. If yours is smaller, two narrower trays side by side work as well as one wide one and print faster.
