About this project
A classic baluster vase wrapped in smooth helical ribs. The ribs twist from foot to mouth and fade out at both ends, while the inside stays a smooth round bore.
How it's built
- Body - an analytic lantern silhouette, sampled at 97 points that are all bound to the size and shape sliders, is revolved into the vessel.
- Ribs - a warp adds cosine ribs repeated evenly around the body and twisted up its height, with a smooth fade at the foot and mouth so there are no seams.
- Cavity - a matching smooth profile, inset by the wall above a flat floor, is cut out. The ribs only add material outward, so they never thin the wall.
Parameters
| Group | Control | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Size | Diameter, height | 60-130 mm belly before ribs, 90-220 mm tall; keep height at least 1.5× the diameter |
| Silhouette | Base ratio, neck ratio | Foot 0.55-0.85 and mouth 0.45-0.8 of the belly diameter |
| Ribs | Depth, count, twist | 0-4 mm ribs (0 gives a plain vase), 8-24 ribs, ±120° twist; negative reverses the direction |
| Construction | Wall, floor | Radial wall before the ribs, and flat floor thickness |
| Quality | Surface resolution | Draft / Standard / Fine; Fine gives the roundest ribs |
